FORD vs FERRARI
American car designer Carroll Shelby and race car driver Ken Miles partnered with Ford Motors to bring out the revolutionary vehicle to compete in the Lemans 24 hour endurance race and Mr. Ford wants to compete with the Enzo Ferrari who is the reigning champion at the time.
Oh, boy I liked this movie, loved the cinematography and the acting and if you're not satisfied with that you have this beautiful story of Mr. Ford trying to find his company's name in the Lemans 24. In that time it was a huge deal to even complete 24-hour race but winning Lemans will be a whole another level of achievement for Mr. Ford.
Ford is already one of the biggest car manufacturers in America but Mr. Ford wanted to take brand FORD to Europe and to the world to establish an international market so Mr. Ford wanted to improve his cars and the popularity of the brand to see an increment in the demand for the Ford cars. So they can enter the market of luxury sport vehicles which was dominated by European manufacturers like Ferrari at the time. So the only way to enter the field of luxury cars or sports cars was to market their brand among other racing car brands by competing in racing championships but Ford Motors had no prior experience or reputation in the field of car racing.
So the story was all about how Ford started from the 101 of racing to be the 24 hours le mans champions taking all 3 pole positions from Ferrari( one of the major racing cars at the time). I'm not going to talk deep about the story it's just a normal true story made added with a little bit of fiction to up the feelings.

Cinematography
The Film crew has used Arri Alexa LF to film the movie and vintage lenses (Panavision C- and T-Series Lenses) to get the vintage look that seen in the movie. It's better to use a vintage lens to get the vintage look on the movie so it will feel much natural to the viewers.
Ford vs Ferrari won the Oscar for the best cinematography not because they used vintage lenses to shoot the movie but they used them in a way that nobody else will think about using them.
For the movie, they have used vintage cars like Ford GT 40 Mark II which are very rare to find and very expensive so production has hired these cars from car collectors and to minimize the risk of getting them damaged they had to come up with a creative way to shoot these vehicles.
What director would normally do is to hire a VFX studio to create these CGI scenes without risking or using any cars but they thought that rather than using CGI it's better to do speedy stunts real way so no sacrifice will be done to the authenticity of the scene.

So to achieve this production used special trucks to carry the cameras since the cars were going very fast in the tarmac and if one of the cars gets destroyed it's very hard to replace them since these cars are very expensive and rare. If the production didn't use this technology the director won't be able to manipulate real racing scenarios with high-speed racing. This technology also helps to get more stabilized shots of the drivers face on the race. Movement of the driver and the camera are synchronized because they sit on the same platform on top of the truck.
